BURY ST EDMUNDS: Ridgeons Timber and Builders Merchants has installed high performance solar photovoltaics panels at its Bury St Edmunds branch, to help reduce energy costs and further improve its green business credentials – with projected pay back of just five years.
The PV system, combining 200 solar collectors each producing 250 watts, was installed by Renewable Technologies, located in Norwich. It features one of the best performance panels available on the market, delivering a total output of 50kWp. The system is projected to reduce Ridgeons’ carbon dioxide emissions by over 22,000kg in the first year, and over the next 25 years, by a projected 500,000kg. It produces 43,000kw hours of energy per year which, over 25 years, will equate to boiling around 8 million kettles of water. 25% of the renewable energy produced by the PV system will be exported by Ridgeons to the National Grid.
Dave Jordan, group sustainability manager at Ridgeons, said: “Sustainable construction is the future and anything we can do as a business to improve our green credentials is a huge step in the right direction. This provides a practical demonstration of what our customers could also achieve.”
