COVENTRY: Peter Hindle MBE, managing director of Jewson and chief executive for Saint-Gobain Building and Distribution has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Birmingham City University.
The degree has been awarded in recognition of his outstanding business achievements, charitable work and ongoing support for Birmingham City Business School.
Peter Hindle received the honour during the Awards Congregation Ceremony at Birmingham City University, which celebrates the work and achievements of students graduating from Birmingham City Business School.
After joining the Jewson chain in 1977, Peter progressed through the company until he was appointed the role of managing director in 1999. In 2000 Saint-Gobain acquired Jewson and in 2003 Mr Hindle became chief Executive for Saint Gobain Building Distribution UK and Ireland.
“I am truly delighted to have been awarded with a honorary doctorate degree by Birmingham City University," commented Peter Hindle. " I believe that success depends upon good leadership with a strong focus on helping people to develop, which is why I have championed such courses as the Jewson Foundation Degree in Builders’ Merchanting and the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Strategy, both developed in conjunction with Birmingham City University.”
Mr Hindle has also made sustainable development a key part of Saint-Gobain’s strategic focus in the UK and Ireland. One major development in 2011 was the launch of the Greenworks Training Academy in Birmingham to provide hand-on knowledge of sustainable solutions and renewable technologies.
He was also awarded an MBE in the Queens New years Honours List in 2009 for his services to the building industry and charity. This was in recognition of the creation of the ‘together’ charity programme, which has raised over £2 million for good causes since it was formed. In 2010 Mr Hindle was elected as a member of the Cranfield School of Management Advisory Board.
