SAFFRON WALDEN: Ridgeons is taking steps to reduce its waste to landfill and business carbon footprint.

Ridgeons has further demonstrated its green credentials by joining the WISER Recycling Scheme, the UK’s first closed loop lamp recycling process.

The recycling procedure allows for old, end of life lamps to be processed and undergo treatment in order to produce high quality glass cullet, which is now being used in the lamp manufacturing industry.

By recycling the old fluorescent tubes and light bulbs from its 22 branches across the region, as well cardboard, plastic, wood, metal and paper, Ridgeon aims to become a more sustainable and responsible company.

“This is such a great scheme to be involved with,” said property manager Ivor Muncey.

“As a company we are very aware of the effect businesses can have on the environment, so this is yet another initiative to further reduce our waste to landfill and our carbon footprint.”

Ridgeons’ Saffron Walden branch achieved nil to landfill in just one month at the end of last year by working with fully integrated provider of waste management services, AmeyCespa.

The branch also achieved ISO 14001 certification for ‘Environmental Management’, with leading body BM TRADA Certification.
