NORTHAMPTON: Over a third of Britons are planning to do DIY jobs this Easter weekend according to research by home improvement retailer Wickes.
As the Bank Holiday approaches Wickes has opened a new store in Winnersh, near Wokingham in Surrey. Tim Matthews, Wickes director of retail development, said: “The new Wickes store is a major investment in the area and plays a significant role in our ongoing store opening programme across the UK – we’re delighted with this latest addition to our estate."
The Wickes survey of DIY activity showed that only 13% of both sexes asked for advice from either their local DIY store or through speaking to a skilled tradesman. The second most popular source of DIY inspiration came from friends with 22% of male and 15% of female respondents looking to their mates for tips.
The Wickes research suggests some people are very fortunate to have dads or granddads that can help practically in their homes. However, with 1 in 5 (22%) of those questioned admitting to 'botching' a DIY job, it is clear that for some of us, family members' willingness to help could be supplemented with some expert help and advice.
Mark Edwards, Wickes DIY category controller, says: "Family members can be a great source of help and inspiration but not all of us are fortunate enough to have dads or granddads who can teach us the tricks of the trade. For those who could do with some extra help this Easter, Wickes will be their 'DIY Dad'."
