BIRMINGHAM: Building supplier Selco has today announced its support for Welsh garden designer Gaynor Witchard in her ‘Off the Shelf’ design entry at this year’s RHS Cardiff Flower Show 2012.

Selco has been supporting Ms Witchard by supplying her with some of the materials she needs to complete her eye-catching garden design, while Brett Landscaping have sponsored the project and donated paving for the final piece.

The urban-inspired ‘Off the Shelf’ garden was inspired by Ms Witchard’s desire to bring design to people who may not have a large budget or garden space, and by using readily available ‘off the shelf’ materials from suppliers such as Selco, as well as easily-sourced plant species, Ms Witchard aims to demonstrate how to make the most of your garden space on a budget.

The show garden has been created to give the illusion of space and features polished paving and muted colours, while the small pool and trickling water promotes relaxation and creates a welcome distraction from traffic noise. A rich variety of evergreen plants and unusual grasses also enhance the garden’s privacy.

Ms Witchard is hoping to secure an award for her garden at this year’s eagerly-anticipated show, which would be her third award in four years of exhibiting at RHS Cardiff.

The Flower Show takes place in grounds of Bute Park at Cardiff Castle in Cardiff, from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 April.

Ms Witchard said: “The feedback I’ve been getting ahead of the flower show has been wonderful, and I’m really hoping to inspire people to have a go themselves when they see how easy and inexpensive it can be to transform even the smallest of spaces into a beautiful garden.”

Helen Cooper of Selco Builders Warehouse added: “We’re thrilled to be supporting Gaynor’s show garden as it reflects our belief that everyone should have the chance to create a garden where they can enjoy time with family and friends, using materials that can easily be sourced from a local merchant at an affordable price.”
