ESSEX: Long-serving secondary glazing installer Michael Jackaman has put away his glass cutter and screwdriver for the last time, after 49 years with East Anglian building supplies and glazing company, Kent Blaxill.

For the last seven years Mr Jackaman has been a secondary glazing installer. He has also been one of the few people still at the company to have worked at Kent Blaxill's former Colchester town centre premises, where he was based until the company relocated in 1963.

Mr Jackaman began his Kent Blaxill career as a 15-year-old in the 'slabbing' department making fireplace surrounds. Over the years, his career has reflected the construction industry's changing technologies, with spells in departments that have come and gone, including fabricating aluminium window frames, and then plastic window frames.
