UK: Following an assessment by the British Standards Institute (BSi), United Merchants, a UK merchant co-operative and clearing house for the trade industry, has been awarded OHSAS 18001 certification for Health & Safety.

“We worked hard to achieve this accreditation (OHSAS 18001), which comes after a process of installing a health-&-safety management system at Unimer. Through working closely with the BSI, we are delighted to have achieved this recognition,” said Suzanne Millward, marketing manager at Unimer.

“We believe this voluntary achievement demonstrates Unimer’s dedication to health and safety. All Unimer’s merchant and supplier members can be confident that the company not only complies with health & safety laws and regulations, but also adheres to documented processes and procedures to implement, maintain and improve on our health-&-safety management system,” Ms Millward added.

“OHSAS 18001 is an international occupational health-&-safety management system that provides a framework to control health & safety risks and improve the health and safety of employees. We achieved OHSAS 18001 certification following successful audits conducted by the BSi. The audits included a detailed review of the our written procedures, operational controls, leading metrics and improvement initiatives, as well as in-depth employee interviews and observations of their work practices. Combining this with our recent ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, OHSAS 18001 clearly shows our commitment to pursuing world-class service offerings in meeting and exceeding our members’ needs.”
