STAFFORDSHIRE: PTS welcomed customers and suppliers to the opening round of the Midland PGA's famous Order of Merit recently. It was the third year the company has backed the competition and the crowds enjoyed a dazzling display from some of the country's leading golfers who converged on South Staffordshire Golf Club.

The event saw respected regional names battle through the wet weather with Matthew Cort, of Rothley Park Golf Club, taking home the top trophy and a slice of the £17 000 prize money. The Rothley Park ace went into the third and final round with a two-shot lead and was rarely troubled with a five-under par 66 ensuring he finished six strokes clear of the field at 12-under par.

John Vaughan, southern regional managing director for PTS and an avid golfer, said: "The plumbing and heating industry is incredibly sociable by nature which means golf is often the sport of choice for our customers. It's been great to spend time with them during the tournament and to have the chance to test out the course ourselves before watching the professionals.

"The event was a huge success despite the weather and we're proud to have been part of it for the third year running. Supporting golfing talent from across the Midlands is important to PTS as a major employer in the region. Congratulations to Matthew Cort on his success, we hope to see him return next year for another nail-biting tournament."<
