KINGS NORTON: Selco Builders Warehouse has announced its plans to work in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to help raise vital funds for the charity.

Selco asked all staff across the network to vote for their chosen charity in their company magazine. Over half of Selco staff voted from a shortlist of five charities, and 39% of the votes received were for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The company aim to raise over £100,000 for Macmillan over the next two years, having already raised over £20,000 through a charity auction and raffle, and also plan to hold a number of charity activities in branches to help reach their target.

“Macmillan is a fantastic charity to support and with the increasing number of people affected by cancer it is an illness that sadly impacts many of us,” says Selco’s Managing Director, Chris Cunliffe.

“We’ve set a target of raising over £100,000 over the next two years and have made a great start with our auction and raffle. We’re looking forward to supporting this great charity over the next two years and I’m sure we’ll have some fun raising money.”

Macmillan work across the UK to support patients and families affected by cancer. Every day in the UK, 882 people are told that they have cancer, and Macmillan offer nurses and other specialist health care professionals, expert advice, practical help and everyday support to help people through cancer.

Linda Noon, Head of Regional Fundraising at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as Selco’s Charity partner for 2012/13 and want to say a huge thank you to their staff for getting behind Macmillan Cancer Support.

“Two million people are currently living with cancer, and at the moment, we are reaching half of them, but we want to reach them all, and with the help of companies like Selco, we can achieve our goal.

“All the money raised from the partnership will help to provide practical, emotional, medical, and of course financial assistance to people affected by cancer. We are really excited to start working with Selco’s staff, customers and suppliers and welcoming them all to our team.”

Selco are committed to working with charities and have previously raised over £55,000 for children’s charity, the NSPCC.
