UK: The ‘OSB Get on Board Tour’ has been snaking its way around the country visiting builders' merchants, looking at the issues faced by tradesmen in today’s market and treating customers to a free breakfast.

As the Government continues to push for greener building methods in the UK, the tour team spoke to builders over a bacon bap and a cuppa about the issues that they face on a day to day basis and how products like OSB could help. Oriented Strand Board (OSB) is an environmentally friendly wood panel used in many general building applications across the world as well as many large scale timber framed housing applications.

Alastair Kerr, director general of the Wood Panel Industries Federation and spokesperson for the tour commented: “Our economy remains incredibly fragile at a time where green building initiatives are becoming a must in all areas of construction.

“This tour was designed to reach builders on their own soil, so that we could treat them to breakfast and chat to them about the general building and environmental benefits of OSB, as well as discover what is really happening out there.”

With the bacon sandwiches going down a treat, the team also dished out goody bags, t-shirts and thermos flasks to builders willing to share their thoughts.

Simon Harper, branch manager for Travis Perkins on Lichfield Road added: “It’s refreshing to see manufacturers making an effort to reward and talk to builders like this. Our customers responded really well to the girls who were out in the car park from around 7am, despite the wind and rain!

“We have arranged another tour date for later in the summer which I’m sure will go down just as well.”

The tour is organised by the JOSB Done Campaign which is supported by the Wood Panel Industries Federation, Manufacturers Norbord and Smartply and resin supplier Huntsman.
