NORTHAMPTON: Sustainable Building Solutions, part of the Travis Perkins Group, has developed a series of LABC-registered animations that detail how to build within efficiency regulations using traditional building methods.

By using these animated junctions, builders could find passing the SAP process much easier. Each junction has been thermally modelled and the resulting PSI-values are on average 69% better than the accredited values that are used for non-modelled junctions within SAP 2009.

The first four animations are now available to view on the SBS website and feature new build solutions for installing windows, ground floor beam and block construction, intermediate floor installation and the creation of a non-habitable roof. Further installation videos, featuring retrofit projects will be released in the near future.

Lee Jackson, head of technical at Sustainable Building Solutions, said: "Changing regulations, particularly in reference to sustainability and efficiency can be difficult to keep up with. SBS has launched these animations to make life as simple as possible for Travis Perkins customers.

"Improving thermal efficiency through cost-effective methods is a vital part of modern housebuilding. These animations demonstrate that a new build can be thermally efficient and code compliant by making only minor tweaks to standard building practices and materials."

Each installation animation is based on one of SBS's Standard Construction Drawings and has been thermally modelled by BRE and accredited by LABC. The website also features a solution data sheet for each installation with written technical installation guidelines. Additional details such as where to source the products and which regulations are relevant are included alongside a number of handy tips.
