MACCLESFIELD: Following the recent opening of a new branch in Kent, MKM has now opened its 39th branch in Macclesfield. The branch, which officially made its debut on Monday 13 August, has created 14 new jobs and is the latest development in MKM’s current £20m expansion strategy.

David Kilburn, executive chairman of MKM commented: “The opening of MKM Macclesfield is an exciting new development for us as we expand our network into the North West.

"We have been planning the Macclesfield branch for several years so it is fantastic to now be up and running and serving the local community. We have opened two new branches in the UK over the past year as part of our expansion programme and continue to look for opportunities.”

MKM Macclesfield is run by branch directors Peter Gibson and Rob Dean, who have both spent their whole careers working in the local area. Mr Dean has 27 years of experience and Mr Gibson has over 22 years’ experience in the trade, having worked previously at a national builders’ merchant and smaller independent.

Mr Gibson commentED: “We are delighted to have opened MKM Macclesfield. The response from customers so far has been fantastic and local people now have a choice of which builders’ merchant to use in the area, where previously it has been limited.

“I made the choice to move to MKM from a national builders’ merchant because I wanted the freedom of running an independent branch. Whilst we are independent, being part of MKM allows us to hold a much higher stock level on-site and offer fantastic deals too. The whole team at MKM Macclesfield are local and highly experienced. This means that we know the area and our customers, so we can offer a top notch, personal service.”

MKM is currently in the process of an ongoing expansion strategy, which will see it open 10 new branches in England and Scotland in 18 months, generating up to 200 jobs. Over the past year, the company has undertaken a £1m refurbishment of its Hull headquarters and has opened branches in Kent and Perth.
