WOLVERHAMPTON: A four-year legal row over a £40m student village in Wolverhampton 'threatened' by gas storage on Carver's Building Supplies site is near an end. There were calls for Victoria Hall student flats to have their planning permission revoked because they fall within the blast zone of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) tanks stored legally at Carvers Building Supplies.
After a dispute between Wolverhampton City Council and the Health and Safety Executive, the council has acquired a new site for the LPG plant, while Carvers has applied for planning permission.
Once planning permission is gained, Carvers will buy the site from Wolverhampton City Council, install a new LPG plant there and remove the LPG plant from its Littles Lane site. Carvers distribute around 2000 tonnes of LPG per annum by cylinder and bulk tanker.
Carvers' director David Carver said: “Carvers are relieved this protracted dispute between two government organisations is coming to an end. We are looking forward to building our new LPG plant and developing our LPG business in the future.”
