MPS Builders' Merchant has acquired the Swindon depot of Burdens which entered administration last year. The deal includes the freehold premises, lorries, plant and equipment, stock, and assets. Staff of Burdens Swindon have been transferred to MPS which has sites in Birmingham, London, Fareham and Warwick.

Burdens entered administration last year and Wolseley has already acquired 22 of its sites.

Steve Halkett, of Wright Hassall’s corporate team who advised on the deal, said: “For MPS, the acquisition of the Swindon depot of Burdens complements their operation perfectly.

“It will help to continue the firm’s steady growth while improving the strength of existing client relationships and providing great standing in a new geographical area.

“The deal had to be completed swiftly and efficiently not least as the jobs of the Swindon depot staff were at stake.
