Buildbase will continue to sponsor Coventry’s Bees' speedway team this year. The club’s Elite League team will continue to be known as the Buildbase Bees, as they have been since 2004.

Stephen Thompstone, managing director of Buildbase and regional director John Clarke are both motorsport enthusiasts: Mr Clarke is a regular at Brandon on race-nights, often introducing clients and guests to the sport.

“We got the wooden spoon in 2004 and the question was, were we going to go back for a second season?” said Mr Clarke. And the answer? “Absolutely. You shouldn’t go into things for the short-term, so we went back for year two and we went from one end of the table to the other, and then it was year three, four, five and it just went on and on.

“The world will always change but a speedway fan is a speedway fan – you go up there and you’ve got three or four generations all watching the sport. It’s a wonderful experience, and the riders amaze me with how approachable they are.

“It’s absolutely superb that this is our tenth year of sponsorship, and it obviously works as far as brand profiling is concerned because Birmingham picked up a main sponsor last year which is part of the same group who own Buildbase – so when I saw them get on board with Birmingham, it endorsed for me that what we had done, and continue to do, makes some sense.”

Bees owner Mick Horton is entering his second season in charge of the club and is delighted to retain the support of such a loyal team sponsor. “In difficult times all round, the support they continue to give Coventry Speedway is so much appreciated,” he says.
