The Worshipful Company of Builders' Merchants (WcoBM) awarded four Builders’ Merchant Federation (BMF) students at its annual City & Awards Luncheon on 5 March.
The event took place at the historic Ironmongers' Hall in London and the awards went to the top four graduates of the Builders' Merchant Federation Diploma in Merchanting.
The WCoBM supports training and education in the merchant industry through its close links with the Institute of Builders' Merchants (IoBM) and BMF. The City & Awards luncheon hosted by the company is an opportunity to recognise the achievements of young merchants in the industry.
Glenn Paddison of MKM Building Supplies won the company’s first prize and the Golton Medal 2013. Roy Shewry of Hoppings Softwood Products won second, and Nick Cox of Palladium received third prize. The fourth prize went to Ryan Osborne, of Hoppings Softwood Products.
The annual City & Awards Luncheon is a key networking event for liverymen and freemen of the company and their guests. George Gillon CC was the guest speaker. John Newcombe, managing director of the BMF, Andrew Pine, president of IoBM, and the masters of four other livery companies were among the Master’s guests.

The luncheon, now in its second year, raises the profile of Builders’ Merchanting in the City and was very well-attended. It provides a platform for a number of the company’s objectives, which includes encouraging networking and the exchange of information to bring about a thriving and prosperous industry through cooperation and interaction.
