CAMBRIDGE: Ridgeons Timber and Builders' Merchants has been presented with an  'Outstanding Contribution Award' at the Cambridge News Business Excellence Awards on 24 March at the Great Hall, Kings College, Cambridge.

Ridgeons is celebrating its centenary this year and David Ridgeon, great grandson of the company’s founder Cyril Ridgeon; Anne Ridgeon, the company’s chairman; and Angela Rushforth, Ridgeons’ managing director, were all present to accept the Award.

Presented by Graham Ayres, managing director of Iliffe News & Media East, owners of Cambridge News, to David Ridgeon, the Award was made in recognition of the significant role the company has played in driving the regional economy and supporting local communities.

Graham Ayres said: “Ridgeons is a fantastic example of a great British business which has made an outstanding contribution to making the region such a successful and exciting business community.”

David Ridgeon, who joined the family business in 1958 at the age of 23, commented: “It is a great honour to receive this award on behalf of the family and the business. We’re extremely proud of what we’ve achieved and are looking forward to celebrating our 100th Birthday this year with our employees, customers and the general community, through a planned schedule of celebratory activities.”
