STOKE-ON-TRENT: A leading UK manufacturer of thermal insulation products has had the effectiveness of its environmental management systems recognised with the Award of an ISO 14001 certificate.

The certificate covers the Stoke-on-Trent manufacturing facility operated by Recticel Insulation Products and marks the success to date of an ongoing initiative to raise environmental standards in every area of the company’s activities.

The Certification was awarded after a series of assessments made by auditors form Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). “We make the claim that our products offer our customers ‘a better way’ of satisfying their insulation needs and we apply that same approach to our own activities,” comments Recticel’s Commercial Director, Chris Hall. “We are constantly seeking a better way of doing things and that includes minimising our environmental impact and complying with legislation, so it’s especially pleasing to have our achievements in this area officially recognised.”

The drive to achieve this certification has seen Recticel address many areas of its operations, including waste creation and processing, water consumption, wastewater disposal and even fire risk. “Our strategy has been to identify aspects which need addressing and then assess their impact and the ways in which this can be reduced,” adds Chris. “The road to this certification has involved a challenging learning curve for everyone involved and so it’s to their great credit that we have been successful. Our goal now is to not only maintain the environmental standards we have achieved, but to improve on them as we go forward.”

This latest development comes just a short time after the company was awarded an independent Certificate of Competency by the Thermal Insulation Manufacturers and Suppliers Association and the British Board of Agrément. This award confirms Recticel’s abilities to provide customers with both U-value and condensation risk calculations which meet stringent quality standards.
