TELFORD: Independent builders, plumbing and hardware buying society, NMBS, has appointed Tim Allen as its new non-executive chairman.
Mr Allen has a wealth of experience within the building industry and spent nearly 20 years of his life as corporate finance director of Williams Holdings. While in the role Williams built up one of the most impressive collections of branded building products businesses in the late 1980's and 1990's with such names as Crown Paints, Cuprinol, Rawlplug, Swish, Valor, Chubb and Yale.
Since Williams, Mr Allen has specialised as an investor and non-executive director, building a portfolio of companies. As chairman he recently sold Birchwood Products – a group that owned brands such as Defender, Rhino, and Scruffs to the BSS Group.
Mr Allen comments on his appointment: "I am delighted to have been asked to join NMBS and I look forward to the exciting challenge of working with an excellent management team to deliver growth, financial security and appropriate financial returns for the benefit of all our members."
