LEAMINGTON SPA: The UK’s first micro-CHP course has been launched by Plumb Center at Greenbuild Expo. The one-day training course will be available in three training centres across the UK and covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of installing, commissioning and maintaining a Baxi micro-CHP boiler for domestic applications.
Baxi Ecogen uses a free piston Stirling engine to generate up to 1kW electricity while it is providing space heating and hot water, which is usually at times of peak electrical demand. It is MCS certified so is eligible for the Government’s Feed-in Tariff, realising a generation tariff of 11.0p/kWh.
Simon Allan, renewables director for Plumb Center said: “Being able to offer the micro-CHP course alongside our other renewables courses means that we now offer training on the full range of technologies currently available. Getting trained and accredited now is essential for those who want to access business boosting incentives such as the Feed-in Tariff. We are offering more and more courses through local training centres, as well as our branch network, so that installers can stay one step ahead and offer their customers the opportunity to make the move into renewables.”
Plumb Center works in partnership with Sevenoaks Energy Academy to deliver a regular programme of BPEC accredited renewables training courses around the UK. The micro-CHP course is available at training centres in Leamington Spa, Bristol and Sevenoaks.
Plumb Center is also working together with NAPIT to provide a simple MCS registration process, giving customers a £100 discount.
NAPIT’s scheme is a simple route for installers to become MCS registered and enable them to install renewable technologies and introduce Feed-in Tariffs and Government grants through the Renewable Heat Incentive to their customers. The courses and materials provided can help installers achieve MCS accreditation.
