WHETSTONE: Founder members of the National Buying Group (NBG), Lawsons, has announced its resignation from the organisation.

"This is not a decision which has been taken lightly as we were founder members of the organisation and have greatly valued what it has helped us to achieve over the years," said Lawsons' managing director Joe Inzani.

"However we now believe that our interests would be best served by being in full control of our own procurement policy rather than operating within a buying group. For the avoidance of doubt, we are not leaving NBG to join any other buying group.

"Our exit from NBG has been handled amicably and professionally from both sides and whilst our official exit date is 1 January 2013 some agreements ending 1 April 2013, through mutual agreement, will remain in place. Details of agreements effected will be communicated to suppliers on an individual basis through both ourselves and the NBG Category Management Teams.

"We wish the NBG and all of its members every success for the future."
