The Builders Merchants Federation and Builders’ Merchants News will once again be working together to celebrate the key influencers in the builders’ merchants’ industry.

Following the success of the Top 100 Builders’ Merchant Influencers campaign, Builders Merchants News and the Builders Merchants Federation will be teaming up once again, this time to recognise the Top 100 Supplier Influencers.

An influencer is someone who has the power to affect the decisions of others because of his or her authority, knowledge, position, or relationship with his or her audience.

BMN and the BMF will be looking for those individuals from the suppliers who dedicate their time and effort to promoting our industry.

John Newcomb, CEO of the BMF, said: “The BMF represents merchants and their suppliers in equal measure. So it’s only natural to follow our successful quest to identify the Top 100 Merchant Influencers, with a similar search to discover the Top 100 Supplier Influencers. The industry flourishes when these two elements work in partnership.

“Supplier influencers may introduce innovative products to the market, take time to build fantastic working relationships with their customers, support colleagues, promote affirmative action or be prepared to take a risk in finding new solutions to old problems.

“Whether they are already well known, or an emerging new talent, we stand ready to celebrate and salute their achievements.”

BMN’s Commercial Manager, Ellen Walton, added: “Working with the BMF to celebrate both the Top 100 Merchant Influencers, and now the Top 100 Supplier Influencers highlights the amazing talent and passion that everyone has for this sector.

“From involvement in industry events, being BMF Ambassadors, or the charitable work that people take on, over and above the usual working hours, it is clear that we have a great industry.”

To make the Top 100 Supplier Influencer list, key criteria in four specific categories must be reached:

  • Involvement
  • Presence
  • Charity and community work
  • Commitment to the industry.

The individual must work for a company that supplies products or services to builders’ merchants, be involved with buying groups and trade associations and attend industry events.

They must actively engage with the industry on social media and have a presence within their community through fundraising and charitable work.

Anyone committed to training and promoting the industry to the next generation will also be considered.

The list will not include anyone who has retired or recently left merchanting.

Nominees will be put forward by the buying groups involved in the initiative. They do not have to be BMF members, BMN advertisers, directors or managers - the key ingredient is that they have to be ‘influential’.

The Top 100 Supplier Influencers will be revealed in BMN and featured in a special commemorative brochure.

They will be invited to an exclusive Gala Dinner on 25 May 2023 at The Belfry, for an evening of celebration and networking sponsored by the NMBS.
