Our client is creating a senior commercial role responsible for managing a small portfolio of strategically important, high-value customers.

This is a senior individual contributor position, focused on owning and developing a defined group of major accounts where purchasing volumes are substantial and commercial decisions have significant impact on margin, forecasting and long-term customer relationships. The role typically involves managing around 15 major accounts, with an emphasis on depth of engagement and commercial influence rather than account volume.

The successful candidate will act as the central commercial owner for these relationships, coordinating internally across sales, supply chain and planning functions to ensure consistent pricing discipline, accurate forecasting and a joined-up approach to strategic customers.

Candidate Background

We are seeking a high-calibre strategic account leader experienced in managing a small number of high-value, commercially sophisticated customers.  Potential candidates should have experience of working in a similar role for a high volume component/raw material manufacturer.  This could be from any manufacturing industry: building products, automotive, aerospace.

Supplying into:

  • OEM or industrial manufacturing customers
  • National housebuilders
  • Tier 1 construction contractors
  • Large manufacturing or engineering organisations
  • Any sector where a small number of major customers drive significant revenue

The key requirement is experience managing high-volume, high-value accounts, including pricing, margin management, forecasting and complex negotiations.

Profile

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • Strong strategic or national account management experience
  • High intellectual capability and commercial judgement
  • Confidence dealing with demanding, commercially sophisticated customers
  • A structured, data-led approach to forecasting and account planning
  • The ability to influence internal stakeholders without direct authority

Location & Travel

Candidates based anywhere in England will be considered, with a preference for those in the South East or Midlands due to proximity to the company’s UK head office.

The role involves:

  • Periodic office presence (South East based typically once every 1–2 weeks)
  • Regular UK customer travel
  • Occasional international travel
  • Flexibility to work from home when not travelling
