The leading merchant and distributor saves equivalent of 400kg CO2 via electric recycling.
STARK Building Materials UK has marked another step forward in its commitment to sustainability having saved the equivalent of 400kg of CO2 via waste electric recycling initiative Ecogenesys, securing certification.
The Ecogenesys model quantifies the carbon emissions – measured in tonnes of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) – generated for every tonne of electrical waste it collects and recycles on behalf of its members. Having recently released the figures from its 2024 programme, Ecogenesys has estimated that STARK UK has saved the equivalent of 400kg of CO2 – the same as it takes to charge a smartphone 92,800 times.
The Ecogenesys initiative was developed through extensive research and analysis which has since been peer-reviewed to ISO 14044. The model allows businesses to demonstrate the value they bring to the management of products at their end-of-life internally to staff, to suppliers and to customers. As part of its partnership with Ecogenesys, STARK UK fully finances the collection and treatment of products at end-of-life, through traceable and fully auditable processors.
Sabrina Passley, Head of Sustainability for STARK UK, said: “This latest environmental certification is further proof of our good business governance, reinforcing that we operate responsibly at every opportunity.
“It recognises that we’re taking all the necessary steps to meet the regulatory requirements of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive, a vital piece of legislation designed to protect the environment and human health by encouraging sustainable production and consumption.
“By ensuring that the electrical waste from our operations and customer returns is collected, treated, and recycled responsibly via Ecogenesys, we can be confident we’re reducing our carbon footprint as part of a truly innovative programme.”
