LEICESTER: The National Merchant Buying Society is rolling out a service for its members that will enable them to create their own website, for free, 'in about 15 minutes'.

All that the member requires is a domain name that will cost about £5.99. Merchants do not have to be computer literate to use the system. They only have to access their NMBS report centre to create a template-driven website.

"The site has been designed to be simple to set up and is supplied with pre-designed templates and instructions," said NMBS managing director, Chris Hayward. The website will enable members to put special offers out to their clients, send e-newsletters, show the location of their branches and upload product catalogues.

Merchants will go onto their NMBS report centre and create a template-driven website. "We identified that while most of our members have their own sites, there is still a number that do not," Mr Hayward explained.

"The templates have been developed in such a way that members will also be able to add online trading. This is just another way to help our members develop their business in 2010 and beyond."

Mr Hayward added that suppliers can incorporate their modules to the templates. "For example, Toolbank has an online ordering system. This can easily be added to the NMBS site. That way, within 24 hours, a member could be selling online."
