Staff from Alsford Timber & Builder’s Merchant have raised over £10,000 by completing a cycling challenge.
Two teams of cyclists from Alsford successfully completed the “517 Miles Across Beaune” challenge in September 2025, raising more than £10,000 for Cancer Research UK, Demelza Hospice, and the British Heart Foundation.
The event was organised by Challenge Adventure Charities, who since 1996 have been delivering cycling events to raise as much money as possible for charities chosen by participants and trustees. To date, CAC has raised over £4.45 million through such challenges.
This year’s ride took the two Alsford teams, the Wheelers and Peddlers, across 517 miles of stunning but demanding French countryside. The route involved steep climbs, winding roads, and unpredictable weather – testing the endurance, teamwork, and spirit of every rider.
Managing Director of Alsford, Neil Fuller said: “This challenge embodies so many of our core values. This year our performance was inspiring due to personal fitness improvements by team members, and dedication to training commitment pre-race made by all.
"The teamwork required to stay on track in tough conditions and the necessity to have fun and enjoy the pressure is also vital. Above all, in tough economic circumstances we were able to make a difference and raise over £10,000, which is the ultimate testament to the team’s commitment to making a difference.”
Tim Osborne, HBM Commercial Manager, added: “For me the trip is about individuals coming together to create an incredible bond through teamwork, encouragement and energy. The trip is intense and hard going, but due to each of us supporting one another we’re all able to have a constant smile on our faces no matter the weather – and all whilst raising money for amazing causes. What more motivation could you need.”
This is the 6th year Alsford have completed the Challenge Adventure Charities cycling challenge, and this is its largest fundraising result to date.
