Darren House will be lacing up his running shoes for the London Marathon 2026, in a bid to raise funds for the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC).

House will be joined on the challenge by Mark Lambert, CEO of the Association of Wholesale Electrical Bulk Buyers (AWEBB), with both runners aiming to make a meaningful difference to people across the electrical and energy sector.

This year marks AWEBB’s fiftieth anniversary, and members and suppliers have set an ambitious collective fundraising target of £50,000 for the EIC. The pair's marathon effort forms a key part of this milestone campaign, with the pair personally aiming to raise £10,000.

The Electrical Industries Charity has been a cornerstone of support for the sector for more than a century. From apprentices to pensioners and families facing hardship, the charity provides essential assistance to tens of thousands of people each year. In the last financial year alone, the EIC conducted 16,506 consultations and supported industry colleagues through challenges ranging from financial difficulty and relationship breakdown to mental health concerns and terminal illness.

With one in two of the charity’s cases involving mental health support, the EIC has become a leading voice in promoting openness and wellbeing across the industry. Last year the EIC delivered virtual wellbeing sessions to 7,322 individuals and reached over 2,370 individuals through the mental health training provisions.

Electrical Industries Charity’s Managing Director Jess Vailima commented: “We are incredibly proud that Darren has chosen to run the London Marathon in support of our charity. Every penny raised through this challenge goes directly back into the industry, enabling us to provide vital support services to those who need them most from mental health and wellbeing support to training, legal advice, financial assistance and more. The dedication and commitment of volunteers like Darren make this work possible, and the impact of their efforts is felt right across our industry and community.”

Speaking about the challenge, House said he is proud to be taking on the 26.2mile route through London’s most famous landmarks in support of such a vital cause.

“Your support can help feed a family, buy school uniforms, heat a home or fund counselling sessions,” he said. “Every donation, no matter the size, makes a real difference.”
