LEAMINGTON SPA: Wolseley UK’s Sustainable Building Center (SBC) in Leamington Spa has scooped yet another award, this time from the town’s Leamington Society.

The landmark building, which recently marked the arrival of its 10 000th visitor, was given the award ‘in recognition of the significant contribution made to the quality of Royal Leamington Spa’. During the ceremony, held at the town’s Dormer Conference Centre, the building was described as ‘inspirational’ in setting out the direction that construction must take in the coming years.

Tim Pollard, Wolseley UK’s head of sustainability, said: “Recognition by the Leamington Society for our building is a significant achievement in that it is a community award assessed by local people who have a real interest in how the town develops and the contribution buildings like ours make to its future.

“I was particularly pleased that there was a real understanding of why the SBC was constructed and that sustainability is the future of construction.”

The awards presented to the SBC were among 17 presented by the Mayor of Leamington, Councillor Robert Cunliffe, on behalf of the Leamington Society, which holds a biennial ceremony to promote high standards of planning and architecture in the town.
