Decorative aggregate supplier Long Rake Spar has unveiled a £350,000 mobile bagging unit to help meet increased demand.

The new unit went into service this week at the company’s flagship Rye Harbour production site in East Sussex to help boost production of washed and unwashed aggregates.

It can be moved and be operational in just two days, and will be used strategically across the business' four processing and production sites – at Rye, Youlgrave in Derbyshire, Garston in Liverpool, and Prees in Shropshire.

The bagging unit features modern machinery to fill bags and palletise robotically. It will boost capacity of the business by 100,000 tonnes taking the overall stock production capability to up to 850,000 tonnes a year.

Long Rake Spar Owner and Managing Director Trevor Broadhurst, who has been at helm for 40 years, announced the new investment. He said: “Long Rake Spar continues to grow, and this new investment expands our capacity but critically it allows us to be flexible on location. Within just two days the new bagging unit can be deployed at one of our four production sites to allow us to be nimble in responding to customer needs.

“We continue to innovate with products, technology and taking a smart approach to the future of the business. I am delighted to see this new mobile bagging unit come online and strengthen the capabilities of Long Rake Spar as a whole.”
