The family business spent two days on the site near Horsham, West Sussex, to install the roof.
Southern Sheeting has helped bring a scout group’s kitchen hut one step closer to completion after it volunteered to cover it with a metal roof.
The family business, which supplies roofing and cladding materials to trade and domestic customers, donated its time to support Shipley Scouts, spending two days on the site near Horsham, West Sussex, to install the roof.
When fully kitted out, the hut will provide full kitchen facilities for Shipley Scouts and for visiting scout troops from the surrounding areas, enabling them to learn to cook.
Tony Hobbs, Managing Director of Southern Sheeting, said: ”Scouting has always been very close to my heart as I went to Cubs and Scouts as a child and I still volunteer for them as a leader.
”When Shipley Scouts got in touch with us regarding supplying a metal roof we decided to volunteer our time to help them install it. This provided our newer team members, who were under close supervision, with a useful training exercise to hone their skills at metal roof installation.
”Scouting helps children to develop their independence and learn new skills, while for volunteers it’s wonderful to give a little back, so this gave us a lot of joy as a company as well.”
Adrian Marshall, Group Scout Leader, said: ”It was so kind of Southern Sheeting to donate its time to us. This will make a big difference to the children and young people who come to visit. We’re planning to put a sign on the building thanking Southern Sheeting and when the pandemic is over, we’ll hold a grand opening with a barbecue and invite the team along to see the kitchen hut."
