Selco Builders Warehouse staff will compete in “Race Across Selco”, a fundraising initiative to raise money for its charity partner, Cancer Research UK, and Selco Community Heroes.
Members of Selco’s senior leadership will make up four teams to take on a three-day race from the company’s northernmost store in York, to its southernmost store in Exeter, with the aim to raise £100,000 for charity.
The challenge, inspired by the television programme Race Across the World, is sponsored by Bond It, and is taking place between 27 and 29 April. Each team will start with £100 per person to navigate their way across the country using the quickest means possible, while relying on support from the general public and donations.
Along the way, teams will clock in at various Selco stores to complete a series of tasks and challenges. With hands-on activities such as building furniture in record time, every mile will be driven by one goal: raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK to add to the £600,000 raised so far.
Frank Elkins, CEO at Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “I’m super excited to be taking part in ‘Race Across Selco’. Not only is it an exciting challenge to raise money for an important charity, but it’s also a reflection of Selco at its core - always willing to go the extra mile for the right reasons. It won’t be easy, but that’s the point - we want to push ourselves to raise money for two amazing causes: Cancer Research UK and our 2025 Community Heroes winners.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team for stepping up to take on this challenge. It’s a true test of resilience, teamwork and determination, and it perfectly reflects the spirit we see across Selco every day, people pulling together, pushing themselves, and doing something meaningful to support others.”
Anupam Kumar, Bond It Group CEO, added: “Innovation and passion aren’t just found in our products: they are found in the people who drive our industry forward. The team’s commitment to ‘Race Across Selco’ is a testament to the consistency and heart that defines Selco.
"As the proud Headline Sponsor of the event, Bond It is thrilled to support the team as they push their limits for Cancer Research UK and the Community Heroes winners. This challenge perfectly reflects the stronger bond we share as partners – coming together to make a genuine impact where it matters most. We’re behind you every mile of the way!”
