Chandlers Building Supplies and Parkers Building Supplies have launched the challenge on social media this December, in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

This December, Chandlers and Parkers, as part of the Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG), are asking everyone to get involved in the charitable challenge and to share their hilarious fails and successes on social media with the hashtag #TeaBagChallenge and donate to the charity.

Sue McKinney, Head of Marketing for IBMG, said: “ We’ve had such fun doing the challenge, and we are hoping and asking everyone to join in. It’s so simple – just video your self trying to throw a teabag into a cup from at least a metres distance. It’s a challenge that everyone can do, irrespective of age, location or physical fitness.”

To add a competitive edge, the challenge asks participants to tag at least three friends or colleagues and see if they do better – or worse – than them.

Helen Farquharson of Teenage Cancer Trust said: “We are extremely grateful to Chandlers Building Supplies and Parker Building Supplies for their incredible long-term support. The dedicated staff and customers raised in excess of £150,000 in 2019 to support young people with cancer. Please get involved in the #TeaBagChallenge and let everyone know about the Teenage Cancer Trust.

“A donation to the JustGiving page is also very welcome. Every £30 raised helps fund an hour of specialised nursing support for a young person having treatment for cancer, so the ongoing support of Chandlers Building Supplies and Parkers Building Supplies and will continue to make a difference to people’s lives.”

Chandlers Building Supplies and Parker Building Supplies have a long-standing culture of giving back to local communities. Due to the pandemic, its annual fundraising initiatives to include charity golf days, inter-branch football tournaments and the Pavestone Rally have not been possible this year. Nevertheless, it says it’s still very ambitious and aims for 2021 charitable initiatives to surpass previous sums raised.

Participants are asked to upload their attempts to Facebook, Twitter and / or Instagram, using the tags and hashtags; @ChandlersBS @ParkersBS #TeaBagChallenge @TeenageCancerTrust and nominate (tag three friends) to take the challenge.
