Huws Gray Group has announced that its Chairman John Llewelyn Jones died on Sunday 14 August 2022.

Co-founding Huws Gray Builders’ Merchants in 1990 with Terry Owen, Llewelyn Jones continued as Company Chairman for 30 years, championing the economic growth, local employment and heritage of Wales as the Huws Gray Group expanded.

Huws Gray Directors announced the passing with the following tribute: “Those who have met John will know that he was a fantastic character, full of energy and enthusiasm. He liked nothing better than being out and about in the branches spending time with yard and shop colleagues alike. He will be sorely missed by us all.”

"We’ve all got fond memories of working with John over the years. He always had plenty of time and encouragement for everyone throughout the business."

Growing from a single branch in Gaerwen, Anglesey, the Huws Gray Group has rapidly expanded over the past 30 years to become the largest independent builders’ merchant in the UK. The head office remains in Llangefni, employing over 5,000 workers across the UK following their acquisition of Grafton Merchanting GB in 2021.
