A month-long, sector-wide movement challenge urging merchants and suppliers to help collectively achieve one million steps throughout March is gathering pace.
Spring has sprung and so has Mad March Million!
Rainy Day Trust, in partnership with Wellbeing People, has launched the initiative which focuses on a simple commitment: each team member dedicates just one per cent of their wakeful day (ten minutes) to movement.
These small daily actions, when repeated consistently across teams, create measurable wellbeing benefits while strengthening industry connections. The challenge is entirely inclusive - designed for all ages, abilities, and fitness levels - ensuring every team member can participate meaningfully.
Rainy Day Trust and Wellbeing People is delighted to see teams across the builders' merchants and supplier sector lacing up their trainers, grabbing their colleagues, and committing to ten minutes of extra movement.
The response has been incredible. From head office teams taking lunchtime strolls to branch staff organising morning walks around the yard, and supplier teams getting creative with movement breaks, businesses across the sector are having fun and showing their people that wellbeing matters. The energy is brilliant and Mad March Million has only just getting started.
Merchants of all sizes national chains, independent branches, and suppliers right across the home improvement sector are ensuring the industry is moving together, quite literally.
What's happening right now?
Companies are sharing photos of their teams in action, tracking their collective steps, and building genuine camaraderie along the way. It's not about being the fastest or the fittest … it's about normalising movement, celebrating effort, and supporting each other as the industry head into spring.
Teams are feeling more energised, more connected, and genuinely enjoying this shared commitment to wellbeing. And that's exactly what Mad March Million is all about.

"Keep moving, keep sharing, and let's make this March one to remember."
