Batten Shield provides water protection specifically for batten ends and is being introduced by SR Timber as a logical extension to the company's range of high quality graded battens.

This non-drip, VOC-free, water-based cream has been developed to seal and protect cut batten ends from moisture and rot. When treated battens are cut on site, the cut ends are exposed to the elements. This easy-to-apply cream provides a water repellent coating, protecting cut ends from moisture and rot while allowing wood pores to remain open and the wood to breathe. Using Batten Shield significantly reduces the risk of micro-organism growth and decay and helps retain correct moisture content levels.

Once Batten Shield is applied and left to dry, the wood surface is water and dirt resistant. Swelling and shrinking as well as wood 'bleed' will be reduced.

Shaun Revill, Trading Director at SR Timber explains: "We're very excited to launch Batten Shield into the market. To comply with British Standards BS 5534, batten ends need to be treated when cut in exposed areas, with appropriate treatment and Batten Shield has been developed for this purpose.

"It is non-film-forming, which means it will not flake off and need reapplying. It will be dry to the tough after thirty minutes and can be used with all types of graded batten."
