Travis Perkins is collaborating with Brighton University on an art project.
‘From Cradle to Factory Gate’ documents the journey of a pallet of timber, consisting of 60 planks donated by 60 Travis Perkins branches. Each piece of timber was individually transported to the Juncture gallery by foot or public transport, with each journey documented and represented in the exhibition.
Martyn Fowkes, buying manager for timber at Travis Perkins, said: “The quality and choice of the timber made available at trade counters is a priority for Travis Perkins, most recently noted by our partnership with the Grown in Britain initiative. We were delighted to collaborate with Brighton University to make this insightful look into the distribution of materials possible.”
Anthony Gartland from Brighton University added: “This project aimed to explore the distribution of building materials throughout the UK. With over 600 branches nationwide, Travis Perkins was the ideal partner to help us succeed. We’re grateful for its support and for the donation of the timber.”
‘From Cradle to Factory Gate’ ran at the Juncture Gallery and will also be showing at the University of Brighton Degree from 6 June 2014. The exhibition was a collaboration between Alexander Paveley and Anthony Gartland.
