LONDON: Kitchen supplier Galiform said on Tuesday that it expected pre-tax profits to be "comfortably above" the top end of market expectations. The prediction came as the company, which owns Howdens Joinery, reported that sales in the three months to Christmas hit £220m, up 6% on the same period the previous year.

The company, which supplies kitchens and joinery to trade customers, said sales were lifted by the "significant benefit" of three trading days in the Christmas week. That meant that there was "no early tail-off in sales around the previous weekend, as had happened in 2008".
