One of Britain's oldest building firms, Ibbotson Construction has been placed in administration.

The domestic and commercial building firm handled projects worth up to £1.8m and had established a specialist timber frame window side out of its joinery workshop.

Adminsitrators from Preston-based recovery service Leonard Curtis have now taken control of the family-run business. The firm traces it roots back to an itinerant stonemason called Ibbotson who settled in Blackburn in 1756.
