According to new data released in the KPMG and Markit economic report on jobs index, the demand for permanent construction workers increased to 60.5 on its scale. A score of above 50 represents a monthly increase on the index.
The demand for people to fill temporary construction jobs also went up to 57.5 in comparison with November's figures.
It represents a turnaround from December 2008, in which the index recorded the construction sector as having the lowest demand of any industry. At that time, permanent constructions jobs stood at 29.6 while the temporary staff figure was 30.2.
The government has recently announced that it hopes its £1.5 billion scheme to build more homes in the UK will create around 45,000 new construction in the next few years.
