LONDON: Wickes and B&Q are supporting a government campaign called 'Know Your Rights' that supports consumers to help them better understand their rights.

Consumer minister Kevin Brennan is using National Consumer Week to launch the campaign that emphasises goods for sale must fit their description, be of satisfactory quality, and suitable for purpose.

A government survey into consumer sentiment shows that one in three people feel their consumer rights have been ignored.

The survey, conducted by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills shows that 58% of consumers have complained to a retailer, asked for a refund or exchanged an item in the past three years.

But a separate study from the Trading Standards Institute said that 42% of businesses failed to tell customers how to complain.

The institute found that more than half of businesses surveyed do not make new staff aware of consumer rights when they join. And a quarter of the 102 businesses surveyed admitted to never updating employees on consumer law.
