The globally renowned maintenance brand has launched its first water-based formula that can be diluted to suit a wide range of jobs.

Designed for professionals and home users alike, WD-40 Specialist® Professional Degreaser (Water-Based) is a ready-to-use cleaner that is backed by product testing that found 98% of tradespeople and 99% of DIYers say it meets their needs.

From stripping thick, stubborn grease off engines and lawnmowers, to light everyday cleaning of windows and bodywork, the biodegradable formula cuts through dirt and grime quickly, even at low concentrations. It also remains non-abrasive and non-flammable, which makes it safe to use on paintwork, steel, aluminium, plastic, and rubber.

The product is NSF A8 registered and available in two formats: a 1 litre ready-to-use trigger spray bottle and a 5 litre refill container.

The launch is grounded in market research of 150 tradespeople and 200 DIYers, which found that safety, ease of use, and speed of action are the top purchase drivers for both groups when choosing a cleaner or degreaser, criteria the new water-based formula was specifically developed to meet.

Early product testing delivered strong results: 96% of tradespeople and 97% of DIYers agreed the product is of high quality, while 98% of tradespeople and 99% of DIYers said it meets their needs. The majority of both groups indicated a willingness to purchase the product, whether as a replacement for their current degreaser or as a valuable supplement to their existing toolkit.

James Jermyn, Trade Marketing Manager for WD-40 Company, said: "The launch of WD-40 Specialist Water-Based Degreaser marks a significant expansion into a new category of maintenance solutions for WD-40 Company, combining outstanding cleaning performance with enhanced efficiency and sustainability."

WD-40 Specialist Water Based Degreaser joins the existing solvent-based WD-40 Specialist Degreaser as part of a broader range that includes Penetrant, Silicone, White Lithium Grease, Dry Lubricant, Cutting Oil, Spray Grease, and Contact Cleaner.

While the original solvent-based degreaser remains ideal for heavy-duty cleaning where fast evaporation and drying are required, the new water-based formula offers a lower-odour, non-flammable alternative that is dilutable for multiple applications, giving customers the flexibility to choose the right tool for the job.
