City Heating Spares (CHS) has welcomed five new recruits onto its apprenticeship scheme after two former participants graduated into full-time employment.

CHIS is the spares brand of City Plumbing Supplies (CPS) and Plumbing Trade Supplies (PTS). The dedicated apprenticeship programme plays an integral role in attracting new talent to the business, which demands both product expertise and the ability to quickly source the most effective solution.

Darren Taylor, CHS spares apprentice, said: "I was previously in a job where there was no real way of progressing, and I was ready and up for a new challenge. My favourite part of the scheme has been getting to know how the whole business operates, while experiencing life in branch. It's great to learn something new every day and build my own relationships with customers, especially now I'm moving into the role of CHS Manager in Glasgow."

Kevin Williams, managing director of spares for Travis Perkins plc, added: "Nurturing talent and attracting expertise to CHS is vital to the business, but more importantly to the experience and service provided to our customers. Competition is high for the spares stars of tomorrow so we pride ourselves on our apprenticeship scheme, which gives the students a fantastic grounding in the company and sets them on the path to be the business leaders of the future."

The CHS apprenticeship is an 18-month programme, with placements completed in CPS and PTS branches. Once completed, the apprentices are appointed to a branch alongside a mentor.
