Daikin Europe NV has pledged to donate €50,000 – enough to plant 100,000 trees – in support of Earth Day’s Green Cities campaign, if it receives 100,000 likes on its Facebook page on 22 April, 2014.

The money will be donated to WeForest, an international non-profit association that plants bio-diverse forests in the poorest countries around the world, providing jobs for women and enabling them to feed and educate their children.

This year’s Earth Day will be held on 22 April. The Green Cities campaign aims to help cities around the world to become more sustainable and reduce their carbon footprint. There are three key areas: buildings, energy, and transportation, all focusing on improvements in efficiency, investments in renewable technology and regulation reform.

Daikin Europe’s tree planting initiative, which will end at 23:59 on 22 April, reflects the heat pump manufacturer’s commitment to developing the most efficient and safest cooling and heating solutions, including the new Daikin Altherma hybrid heat pump for homes. Daikin takes its responsibility to protect the environment very seriously and all of its policies, practices and processes are developed and implemented with environmental sustainability at their heart.
