Dulux Decorator Centre is introducing Dulux Academy Virtual in nine of its stores – a free in-store virtual learning, featuring Dulux Academy training modules.

The programme expands on the merchant’s existing partnership with the Dulux Academy – which has face-to-face training facilities at five Dulux Decorator Centre stores – making its training more accessible to customers across the country.

With this launch, Dulux Decorator Centre aims to support new entrants to the industry, as well as professional decorators looking to expand their skillset and increase their knowledge of products and techniques.

Dulux Academy Virtual provides access to virtual training solutions in-store via the Dulux Academy Hub. The programme will provide pre-recorded content, as well as access to live sessions and a chance for customers to try the products to support their learning.

There will also be the opportunity for participants to test products themselves as part of the learning process, and Dulux Decorator Centre staff will be on hand to answer any questions.

The modules available include:

  • Water Borne Application – a demonstration on how to best use water-based paints
  • What’s the difference between Trade and Retail? – an exploration of the two different sectors
  • Colour Theory and Scheming – an introduction to basic colour knowledge for design and decorating
  • Spray Tips Explained – an introduction or refresher on using this application method
  • Dulux Heritage – a look at this premium paint range and its benefits
  • Spray HVLP vs Airless – an insight into the difference between the two application methods

Guy Butterworth, Managing Director at Dulux Decorator Centre, explained: “The onsite training facilities we currently offer at 5 of our stores have been incredibly well received by newcomers to the industry as well as established decorators learning new skills and techniques.

“Now we are extending this proposition by offering free of charge online learning in selected stores, via the Dulux Academy Hub, giving our customers more accessibility to industry leading training when it’s convenient for them.

“This is crucial if we are to keep our industry thriving with opportunities to upskill the current workforce and train the next generation.

“The need is even more pressing as we face a skills shortage that is leaving 61% of UK painting and decorating businesses struggling to find workers with the necessary skills, according to our recent State of the Nation report.”

Training is available at the Dulux stores in Edinburgh, Belfast North, Leeds, Derby, Birmingham, Peterborough, Welwyn Garden City, Abingdon, and Canterbury.

Decorators interested in attending a paying virtual live streamed Dulux Academy session can go into one of the selected stores to arrange a time convenient to them with a team member and pay on the spot. Dulux Decorator Centre members can also pay using their account.
