EH Smith Builders Merchants has been awarded the Gold Medal at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Awards for its outstanding commitment to occupational health and safety and in recognition of having won nine consecutive golds awards since 2008.

The RoSPA Awards is celebrating 60 years of presenting highly-regarded and sought after accolades to businesses and organisations, which have shown commitment to accident and ill-health prevention. Through the scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards and events, said: “To win an award at such a highly-regarded event as the RoSPA Awards is a great achievement. It recognises EH Smith’s ongoing commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record and raises the bar for other organisations to aspire to.”

Greg Crofts, EH Smith’s health and safety manager, added: “Gaining the Gold award for a ninth year running is a truly fantastic achievement for the company and the people who work for us. It clearly demonstrates the commitment shown towards health and safety at EH Smith from the top of the organisation to the bottom and reflects the hard work and willingness to continually improve in health and safety performance. This will be fundamental over the coming 12 months as we strive towards a 10th Gold and hopefully the coveted RoSPA President’s award.”
