Former Liverpool, Aston Villa and Wales footballer Dean Saunders was part of a team from RGB Building Supplies’ Porthleven branch that won the builders merchant’s annual charity golf day.
The day, held at Bovey Castle and organised in association with Exeter City FC, saw 29 teams made up of suppliers, customers and staff take part in the four-ball competition. Over £3,500 was raised for RGB’s chosen charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).
Following the golf, the players enjoyed a prize presentation, which saw the winning Porthleven team awarded the Andy Shinner Memorial Trophy, before Dean Saunders entertained the audience with stories from his playing career.
Naomi Dymond from CHSW explained how the money raised during the day would support the charity, and then joined Mark Jenkins, Head of Commercial at Exeter City FC, to help boost the fundraising total with games and auctions.
Kevin Fenlon, CEO at RGB Building Supplies, said: “Our annual charity golf day is always thoroughly enjoyed by everyone that takes part and congratulations to Dean Saunders and the winning Porthleven team for taking home the trophy this year. A huge thank you to all the suppliers, customers and RGB staff for their generosity in helping to raise such a fantastic amount of money for Children’s Hospice South West. It’s greatly appreciated.”
This is just one of the many activities RGB Building Supplies is organising this year to fundraise for Children’s Hospice South West. The money raised will help the charity continue to provide hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West.
