Inter-Line recently celebrated the completion of its 20-mile fundraising kayak in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
The builders’ merchant team took part in the kayaking event on 10 August, and presented the RNLI with a cheque of just over £7,400 on 4 October.
“The challenge seems a long time ago now, but we completed it and have now collected all the pledges,” explained Inter-Line’s financial director Neil Robinson.
He went on to describe the challenge. “Our team set off from Newton Abbot at 7am in quiet, sunny conditions, but we knew we wouldn’t be so lucky for the entire trip,” he said. “After 4 miles down the Teign and then 10 around the south Devon coast, we rounded Hopes Nose into Torbay and were greeted with a 15mph head-wind, which we had to contend with for the final 6 miles.
“The challenge was much harder than last year; 8.5 hours were spent paddling compared to last year’s 6.5 – all to cover the same distance! We arrived in Brixham at 5pm, completely exhausted and with blisters to show for our efforts.”
The team raised a total of £7,414 – some £1,939 more than last year. Inter-Line was “thrilled” with the sum and has thanked its main sponsors for their support, including: Woodpecker, Bond, Bradstone, Crown, Premdor, Natural Paving, Cemex, Keystone, M&S, Hunter, BSW, International Ply, Expamet, Everbuild, Parker BS and Harris & Bailey.
