Dr Mark Brenner is stepping down from his role as chief executive of B&ES subsidiary Building Engineering Services Trainings (BEST) after eight years in the post.
“When I joined BEST, its achievement rates had been categorised by the Adult Learning Inspectorate as requiring significant improvement,” Dr Brenner said.
“Since then, we have progressed to a ‘good’ rating, which provided a platform for high growth in apprenticeship numbers up to the start of the recession in 2008. We are now in a position in which the company can introduce major quality and efficiency improvements, and I look forward to completing their implementation prior to my departure.
“I also take this opportunity to thank the staff and board members of BEST for their support, and wish them all the best for the future.”
On behalf of the board of BEST, chairman Peter Fox thanked Mark Brenner for his “leadership and dedication” over the past eight years.
“Mark has introduced a culture of quality, service and value to BEST, while at the same time building a professional, customer-focused outlook that has seen the company win many valuable contracts,” Mr Fox commented.
"He can rest assured that we shall continue his efforts in removing the barriers to the recruitment of apprentices, and in meeting the skills needs of the sector."
Dr Brenner’s departure, which will take place at the end of August, coincides with a restructure of education and training functions currently being undertaken by the Association.
