Ian Church succeeds Nick Sims, who is retiring after three years in the post

Ian Church has been appointed Managing Director of St Albans-based builder’s merchant Buttle plc. He succeeds Nick Sims, who is retiring after three years in the post.

Church has in-depth knowledge of building materials, timber, plumbing & heating and estate management and over 40 years’ experience in merchanting, including 35 years with Travis Perkins and then with fellow h&b Group member, Bradfords group.

Peter Buttle, Chairman of Buttle plc, said: “Nick was planning to do this last summer, but, what with the industry downturn, Brexit uncertainty, a general election, a poor start to this year and then the Coronavirus to top it all, it’s not been easy to get the timing right. I am very grateful to have had Nick at the helm over the past three years and especially during this difficult period. I’m sure we all wish him well for the future”.

“We are now delighted to welcome Ian, whose experience will be invaluable as our business deals with the current COVID-19 emergency and looks to rebuild itself for a changed future.”

Church added: “I’m both delighted and honoured to be joining Buttle’s as its Managing Director. This is a very exciting opportunity to join a strong, highly respected independent merchant with a proud history and opportunities to grow.”
