A local charity will have even more cause to celebrate this month after two IBC Buying Group Supplier partners have made generous donations to the IBC Charity Championship prize fund.

Running alongside the 2020 UEFA European Football Championships, the IBC Charity Championships saw 24 Suppliers matched at random with the 24 teams participating in the UEFA Championship.

Over the past few weeks, IBC and the 24 Suppliers have been taking part in a series of videos, interviews and pre-game press conferences on social media, with each Supplier getting into the spirit of the competition while also raising awareness of the vital work of their chosen charities.

At the end of the tournament, the winning Supplier was due to receive a £500 prize from IBC Buying Group, to be donated to a local charity of their choice. Tarmac Building Products and British Gypsum have both offered to match IBC’s original prize fund, meaning the winning Supplier will now be able to present £1,500 to its chosen charity.

Heading into the semi-finals four Suppliers still remain in the tournament – Digby Stone, Aliaxis, Big Wipes and Siniat. Their chosen charities for the event are, respectively, the Midlands Air Ambulance, Demelza Hospice Care, the Alexander Divine Children’s Hospice, and the National Autistic Society.

Ian Broad, Key Accounts Manager at Tarmac Building Products, said: “IBC’s charity idea has been great fun and, even though we were knocked out in the last round, we wanted to continue to support it in any way we can. So many local charities have had a really tough time over the past year, and the additional funds will do so much to help them continue their vital work in their local communities.”

Hannah Lloyd, National Account Director at British Gypsum, said: “It was a bitter-sweet moment when Ukraine were eliminated, meaning that British Gypsum’s team was no longer in the competition. However, with England going through to the final four, we couldn’t be happier. I wanted to continue the celebrations by matching IBC’s donation of £500, so that the winning team has a larger pot for its local charity. Good luck to all those who remain!”

Dave Robertson, Joint Managing Director of IBC Buying Group, said: “We’ve been delighted at the response to the IBC Charity Championships, and just how much our Suppliers have got involved over the past few weeks. Having two of them help to triple the prize fund for the winning charity is amazing and we’d like to say thank you to both Tarmac and British Gypsum for their generosity. Whoever wins, we have no doubt that it will make a huge difference to a very worthy charity.”
